What can I expect?

What happens when I go for treatment?

A course of treatment begins with a consultation and full assessment.  You will be asked about any specific symptoms you may have, asked about other aspects of your health and lifestyle and your full medical history will be taken.   In order to make a diagnosis Amanda will also read your pulses on both wrists and examine your tongue.
Depending on the diagnosis and treatment plan, Amanda may use other techniques such as massage, acupressure, cupping and moxibustion.  She is fully trained in all of these therapies.

What does it feel like?

Acupuncture needles are much finer than needles used for injections and blood tests. Because the needles are so fine and so skillfully inserted, you may not be aware of them even going in.  Once they are in, you may feel a tingling sensation, dull ache at the needle point, or warmth around the needle.   You may also simply feel deeply relaxed. Most people find the experience very calming.

Is it safe?

Acupuncture needles are single-use, sterile, and disposable. Amanda adheres strictly to the British Acupuncture Council’s Code of Safe Practice in her treatment room.  Responses to treatment can sometimes include tiredness or mild dizziness, and very occasionally minor bruising may occur. However, all such reactions are short-lived.

Green Walk Acupuncture Clinic has been inspected and approved by Manchester City Council's Environmental Health, Food & Epidemiology Department for the practice of acupuncture.

Should my doctor know?

If you have been prescribed medication it is recommended you tell your doctor that you are planning to have acupuncture. Do not stop taking your medication. You should always tell your acupuncturist about any medication and supplements you are taking as this may affect your response to the acupuncture treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

Frequency and number of sessions depend on your individual condition. At your initial consultation Amanda will give you an idea of how many sessions you may need. Some change is usually felt within five or six treatments, although occasionally just one or two treatments are sufficient. Some people choose to have regular acupuncture to maintain good health.
